Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee’s troubles appear to be mounting. BJP leader Abhijit Das, popularly known as Bobby, has now lodged an FIR against him at Diamond Harbour Police Station in connection with an alleged assault dating back to 2018. Fresh trouble adds to Abhishek Banerjee Abhijit Das, a prominent BJP leader from South 24 Parganas and the BJP’s candidate against Abhishek Banerjee in the last Lok Sabha election from Diamond Harbour, alleged that he was brutally attacked in 2018 as part of a planned conspiracy involving Abhishek Banerjee and some of his close associates. According to the complaint, he was assaulted near Kapat Hat More in Diamond Harbour and lost consciousness at the spot. BJP leader revives 2018 assault allegations The complainant claimed that despite filing a police complaint at the time, no action was taken during the Trinamool Congress regime. On Tuesday night, he once again approached the police, following which an FIR was reportedly registered against Abhishek Banerjee and six others. Police complaint resurfaces after regime change Speaking to the media, Abhijit Das said, I became physically disabled because of the attack. I still cannot climb stairs properly. Abhishek Banerjee and his associates had planned the assault. Everyone knows how brutally I was beaten. I had informed the police then, but nothing happened. This time, I hope justice will be served. Bobby seeks justice in old case The development comes at a time when Abhishek Banerjee is already facing legal and political pressure on multiple fronts. Apart from several ongoing cases, he has also come under scrutiny in the alleged Assembly signature forgery case, in which the CID has intensified its investigation and issued summons. Signature forgery probe intensifies political pressure Meanwhile, the Assembly signature forgery case was mentioned before the Calcutta High Court once again on Wednesday. Senior advocate and Trinamool MP Kalyan Banerjee urged the court for an early hearing, arguing that the CID’s actions, including the recent search operation at the residence of former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, amounted to continuous harassment. High Court schedules hearing for Thursday Justice Kaushik Chanda directed that notices be served on all parties connected to the case and stated that the matter would be taken up for hearing on Thursday. Notably, no written protective order has been granted to Abhishek Banerjee in the matter so far.
