In the 2026 elections, Bhabanipur’s “home candidate” Mamata Banerjee was defeated by more than 15,000 votes by Suvendu Adhikari. Challenging the result from Bhabanipur, the defeated Trinamool Congress candidate Mamata Banerjee has approached the Calcutta High Court. She reportedly reached the court on Tuesday afternoon and filed an affidavit contesting the election outcome. Mamata appears again at High Court Earlier, on May 14, Mamata Banerjee had visited the Calcutta High Court to argue in a post-poll violence case. During that visit, she reportedly faced protests from a section of lawyers. After leaving the courtroom, slogans of “thief” were raised against her. Nearly a month later, on June 16, she appeared again at the High Court. Former CM files Bhabanipur petition today On Tuesday, Mamata’s sudden arrival at the High Court created curiosity among those present. Later, her lawyer stated that she had filed an election petition related to Bhabanipur and submitted an affidavit on the matter. Trinamool leaders Kunal Ghosh and Dola Sen accompanied her during the visit. Mamata challenges Bhabanipur poll results again In the latest Assembly elections, Mamata Banerjee was defeated in Bhabanipur by Suvendu Adhikari by over 15,000 votes. The result saw Adhikari becoming the new Chief Minister. Mamata has now challenged the election outcome in court by filing an affidavit. In 2021, as well, she had lost to Adhikari in Nandigram and challenged the result through an election petition, which is still pending. This time too, she has approached the court over the 2026 Bhabanipur verdict.
