Shiv Sena (UBT) may have to vacate its current office in Parliament House. According to parliamentary rules, only parties with five or more MPs are eligible for office space in the Parliament complex. Once the Lok Sabha Speaker formally recognises the merger of six MPs with the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction, Shiv Sena (UBT) will be left with only four MPs (three in the Lok Sabha and one in the Rajya Sabha). As a result, the party may be required to vacate its existing office (Room 128A) in Parliament House. The party’s two Lok Sabha MPs, Anil Desai and Arvind Sawant, are scheduled to meet Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla in his chamber on Wednesday evening. These include seven Rajya Sabha MPs from AAP and 20 Lok Sabha MPs from TMC. Amid speculation of a split in Shiv Sena (UBT), Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) chief and Uttar Pradesh minister Om Prakash Rajbhar claimed that a major split was imminent in the Samajwadi Party and that several of its leaders were ready to join the BJP. SP chief Akhilesh Yadav dismissed the speculation, saying the Samajwadi Party remained strong and united. He countered that BJP legislators in Uttar Pradesh were the ones likely to switch sides.
