Two separate incidents involving Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders being publicly humiliated have surfaced from Cooch Behar district, with videos of both episodes going viral on social media and triggering political controversy. Rope parade video sparks fresh outrage In the latest incident, Fazlu Haque, a local TMC leader from the Ghughumari Bazar area, was allegedly paraded through a marketplace with a rope tied around his waist. Residents accused him of collecting “cut money,” vandalising the houses of political opponents, and creating an atmosphere of intimidation. The allegations have not been independently verified, and no official statement has yet been issued by either the police or the TMC. Former leader faces public egg attack In another incident reported from Madan Mohanpara in Tufanganj, former TMC Ward No. 10 president Subrata Das, also known as Liton, was allegedly pelted with eggs by protesters in what locals described as an “egg therapy” protest. Protesters accused him of corruption, collecting “cut money,” encouraging political violence, and damaging houses. Das has not publicly responded to the allegations. Police reached the Tufanganj spot after receiving information and brought the situation under control. It remains unclear whether any case has been registered in either incident. Viral videos fuel political controversy statewide BJP’s Tufanganj Assembly co-convener Nikhil Gabua claimed the egg-pelting reflected “long-suppressed public anger” against the former TMC leader. The two incidents come shortly after another episode in Kedarhat, Mathabhanga, where local TMC leader Dilip Barman was allegedly paraded through a market with a rope around his waist and pelted with eggs by an agitated crowd. Videos of all the incidents have circulated widely on social media. However, the authenticity of the footage and the allegations against the leaders have not been independently verified.
