‘3 Idiots’ Chatur comes in support of Sonam Wangchuk:Actor Omi Vaidya says ‘I don’t want Phunsukh Wangdu to die, he should live’

Actor Omi Vaidya, who played the character ‘Chatur Ramalingam’ in the film 3 Idiots, appealed to people to come forward in support of Sonam Wangchuk. Omi Vaidya released a video message saying, “Today I want to talk to you about something important. I don’t often make such videos, so please listen carefully. Do you know that Aamir Khan’s character Phunsukh Wangdu in 3 Idiots was inspired by Sonam Wangchuk, a real-life engineer, innovator, educator, and social reformer from Ladakh?” Omi further said, I have met him. He is a very interesting and simple person. He has done many great things in his life. So I would ask you to learn about him and see what he is doing right now. Currently, Sonam Wangchuk has been on a hunger strike for a long time. Several weeks have passed, and his blood sugar has dropped significantly. I don’t know if you’ve heard about this, or how much media coverage it’s receiving, but this is a very serious matter. Why is he on a hunger strike? Because he is concerned about India’s education system, some issues related to Ladakh, and the environment. Whether you agree with him or not, I just want to say that I don’t want this person to die. For me, he is an inspiring person, and I want him to be safe and alive. The actor appealed to the people, saying, We are all common people and are very busy in our daily lives. Many times we don’t have time to pay attention to such issues, but if you take a little time to understand this matter, you might find some of their points to be valid. Perhaps you, your family, or your friends have also faced similar problems. That’s why I just want to tell you to pause for a few minutes. Take some time out from your work or home responsibilities and see what is happening right now. I think it is very important to know this. Because I don’t want Phunsukh Wangdu to die, and I think you wouldn’t want that either. Asked to convey the message to public representatives Omi further said, “Let us all do what we can together. On hunger strike since June 28 Sonam Wangchuk has been on a hunger strike at Jantar Mantar in Delhi since June 28, 2026. Today is the 17th day of his hunger strike. He is supporting the ‘Cockroach Janta Party’ (CJP) movement against reforms in the country’s education system, alleged irregularities in examinations (such as the NEET exam controversy), and paper leak cases. Protesters are demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and full accountability in the examination system. They have appealed to the citizens of the country to unite on this issue and join the proposed ‘Parliament March’ on 20 July.
