‘Drug supply to India is part of a terror conspiracy’:PM Modi urges youth to defeat enemy nations’ plans

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched the ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan’, saying India’s goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047 can only be achieved if its youth remain physically and mentally fit and stay away from drugs. Addressing the nationwide launch event via video conferencing, Modi said drug abuse may provide a temporary “high”, but ultimately damages careers and family life. Drugs may give a temporary high, but they bring down your career and family life. Addiction distracts young people from their goals and gradually takes them away from their dreams, Campaign evolved from Kashi pilot project Modi said the initiative, which began as a pilot project in Kashi, has now grown into a nationwide people’s movement against drug abuse. He said the campaign has brought together more than 125 spiritual organisations, along with social organisations and NGOs, to spread awareness and encourage youth participation. 100-week nationwide campaign The Prime Minister announced that the campaign will continue for 100 weeks, with programmes to be held every Sunday across the country. The weekly events will include activities related to art, culture, sports and community engagement, aimed at educating people about the harmful effects of drug abuse and promoting the vision of a drug-free India. Modi urged young people to take the lead in the campaign and contribute towards achieving the goal of a Viksit Bharat (Developed India) by 2047. Over one crore youth participate More than one crore young people participated in the launch event, which was held simultaneously at over 28,000 locations across the country through video conferencing. Before the Prime Minister’s address, participants took a nationwide pledge to work towards building a drug-free India. Spiritual leaders, Chief Ministers attend launch The event was attended by five prominent spiritual leaders, Amma, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Daaji, Dr Chinmay Pandya, and Swami Brahmavihariji. Several Chief Ministers and Governors also joined the nationwide programme. Government seeks mass movement against drug abuse The campaign is being organised with the support of schools, colleges, universities, youth organisations, social institutions, industry bodies and more than 125 spiritual organisations. The Centre aims to transform the initiative into a nationwide movement against drug abuse by encouraging widespread public participation and sustained awareness efforts over the next 100 weeks.
