In Maharashtra’s Nanded, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president and former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal was attacked on Thursday. According to initial information, Badal had reached Nanded with his family to pay his respects at the gurdwara, where a Nihang attacked him with a kirpan at Gurdwara Mata Sahib Kaur. Badal suffered an injury to his hand, while a police officer assigned to his security was also injured. He was later admitted to Yashosai Hospital. His condition is reported to be stable, according to CMO sources. The accused was arrested immediately after the attack. Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis has ordered an inquiry into the attack on SAD chief and former Punjab Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal. Fadnavis spoke to Badal over the phone, he told the CM that he is stable. Attacker taken into custody Security personnel and others present at the spot overpowered the attacker after the incident. Police took him into custody and began questioning him. The reason behind the attack is not yet clear. The attack on a senior political leader like Sukhbir Singh Badal with a sharp-edged weapon inside a religious place has also raised questions about security arrangements. Khalistani terrorist Narayan Singh Chaura was accused of planning the attack in detail, with CCTV footage showing him at the temple premises several days before the incident. ASI Jasbir Singh foiled the attack by pushing the pistol away. Chaura, who had reportedly received weapons training in Pakistan, showed no remorse after his arrest. The complex also preserves many of his personal belongings and weapons. This makes it an important record of Sikh history from the late 17th and early 18th centuries.
