A Nihang assaulted a Chandigarh Home Guard jawan at the Mataur border between Chandigarh and Mohali, with a video of the incident surfacing on social media. The footage shows the Nihang grabbing the dori (lanyard) on the jawan’s uniform, pulling him towards himself and slapping him. He is also heard abusing the jawan and accusing him of consuming alcohol and disrespecting the Guru Granth Sahib. The Home Guard jawan is seen repeatedly folding his hands before the Nihang during the confrontation. Jawan was returning from Mohali The jawan has been identified as Ravinder, who is posted with Chandigarh Police. He was returning to Chandigarh on his motorcycle after visiting his sister in Mohali. Police had installed barricades at the Mataur border to prevent protesters associated with the Kaumi Insaaf Morcha from entering Chandigarh. The Nihang allegedly confronted Ravinder shortly after he crossed the border and entered Chandigarh. Police find no evidence of alcohol consumption The investigation so far has not found evidence that Ravinder was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
