US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has criticised the ongoing trade negotiations with Canada, comparing the country to a small barking dog annoying a bigger dog. In an interview with Fox News, Bessent said a trade war with Canada would have very little impact on prices in the US. He also accused Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney of rejecting an excellent trade deal. The US and Canada failed to reach an agreement after three days of trade talks in August.
