Chandra Kumar Bose, grandson of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, has criticised the upcoming film Fauji over its portrayal of the historic meeting between Netaji and Adolf Hitler. Speaking to news agency IANS, he alleged that the film presents the meeting inaccurately and sensationalises the events. He said historical facts linked to national icons should not be distorted in the name of creative freedom. Chandra Kumar Bose has also demanded a public apology from the film’s director to all those who respect Netaji and India’s freedom struggle. ‘Tampering with facts connected to national symbols is a crime’ Chandra Kumar Bose said filmmakers have complete freedom to make films on the freedom struggle and patriots. However, distorting and misrepresenting historical facts in the name of imagination is wrong. He said an attempt had been made to undermine Netaji’s dignity by portraying his meeting with Hitler incorrectly in the film. The director should have properly understood the historical context and depicted it on screen accurately. Hitler and Netaji spoke as equals Chandra Kumar Bose clarified the historical context of Netaji’s meeting with Hitler. He said Netaji had met the German dictator, Hitler, to seek support for India’s independence. Netaji believed that Hitler of Germany and Hideki Tojo of Japan could help India’s freedom movement at that time. He made it clear that Netaji had never spoken to Hitler as a subordinate, but as an equal. Hitler supported Netaji because he understood his patriotism. Netaji Was a Supporter of Democracy and Opposed Fascism Bose said Hitler had failed to understand India’s history and culture in his autobiography, Mein Kampf. Both leaders initially worked solely for the interests of their respective countries, although Hitler later became consumed by the arrogance of power. In contrast, Netaji was staunchly opposed to fascism and had an unwavering faith in the democratic rights of the people. According to him, an attempt had been made in the film to damage the image of such a great personality, which was completely wrong. Controversy Erupts Over Giving Prabhas’ Character Greater Importance The recently released trailer for the film ‘Fauji’ shows Netaji introducing Prabhas’s fictional character to Hitler. Critics and Bose allege that the scene gives greater importance to a fictional character, while diminishing the role of a figure like Netaji. This has intensified the controversy, with demands being made for the film’s director to apologise. ‘Fauji’ is a war-drama film ‘Fauji’ is a big-budget period war-action film written and directed by Hanu Raghavapudi.
