Bollywood actress Nora Fatehi appeared before the National Commission for Women (NCW) on Thursday in connection with the case of spreading obscenity in the song ‘Sarke Chunar’ from the film ‘KD The Devil’. Nora submitted a written apology to the commission and clarified that she had no intention of hurting anyone’s feelings. Nora told the Women’s Commission that from now on, she will not perform such item songs that hurt the dignity of women or send a wrong message about women in society. Along with this, Nora has also taken the responsibility of bearing the educational expenses of orphaned girls. ‘I was not aware of the Hindi version’
After appearing before Delhi Commission for Women Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar, Nora spoke to the media. She said, “I have apologised in writing. As an artist, I understand my responsibility. My intention was not to hurt anyone, but this was a situation I was put into.” Earlier, Nora had claimed that she had only shot for the Kannada version, and it was dubbed into Hindi without her consent. Will sponsor the education of orphan girls
Along with apologising, Nora announced that she would sponsor the education of orphan girls. Nora said, “It is very important to give back to society. Therefore, I have decided that I will bear the cost of education for some orphan girls.” Sanjay Dutt has also apologised
It is worth noting that last month, actor Sanjay Dutt had also appeared before the NCW regarding the same song. He had also expressed regret by submitting a written apology. As a corrective measure, Sanjay Dutt had promised to bear the educational expenses of 50 tribal girls. The commission had strongly objected to the words used in the song and the portrayal of women. What is the ‘Sarke Chunar’ controversy?
This controversy began on March 15 after the Hindi version of the film’s song was released. There was a lot of anger on social media regarding the song’s lyrics. People called it an insult to women and extremely vulgar. Seeing the controversy grow, the makers removed the song from YouTube. Many celebrities like Ravi Kishan, Kangana Ranaut, and singer Armaan Malik also criticised this song. Last month, the Women’s Commission took suo motu cognizance of this song based on media reports. The commission stated that the song’s lyrics and choreography were, at first glance, sexually suggestive and objectionable.
