A cargo ship from Gujarat sank last night in the Strait of Hormuz, caught in the firing between the US-Iranian navies. This ship belonged to Salaya, Dwarka district, Gujarat. In the accident, an Indian crew member named Altaf Talab Ker, who was working in the ship’s engine room, died, while the remaining 17 crew members were rescued. Adam Bhai, General Secretary of the Indian Sailing Vessels Association, provided this information while speaking to Bhaskar. Adam Bhai has also sought help by sending an email to the Indian Embassy in Dubai. The cargo ship MSV AL FAIZE NOORE SULEMANI-I was carrying general cargo from Dubai to the port of Mukalla in Yemen. A total of 18 crew members, including one gunman, were on board the ship. According to Adam Bhai, the ship was passing through the Strait of Hormuz at around 1 AM on May 7. During this time, direct firing began between the Iranian and American navies. This ship from Gujarat was also caught in the crossfire. Passing ship safely rescued the crew After the ship sank, the crew began trying to save themselves. At the same time, another passing ship, MSV Prem Sagar-I, provided assistance. This ship safely rescued 17 crew members. The ship suffered heavy damage from the firing and started taking on water. As a result, the ship began to sink. During this time, Altaf Talab Ker, who was in the engine room, was seriously injured. He died on the spot. All rescued crew members safely reached Dubai Port late in the evening on May 8. Adam Bhai has also provided a video of these crew members to Bhaskar. As soon as the news of the incident reached Salaya, grief spread throughout the area and among the fishing community. The Indian Sailing Vessels Association has made several demands to the Indian Embassy. The Association has requested that the final rites for the body of the deceased Altaf Talab Ker be completed. Assistance should be provided in obtaining documents related to the dead body, including the death certificate and post-mortem report. Additionally, arrangements should be made to ensure the safety of the 17 crew members who reached Dubai and bring them back to India. The Association has also demanded increased security for Indian vessels in international maritime waters. Currently, the Indian Embassy is active in this matter, and the process of bringing the crew back to India has been initiated.
