An abducted woman, identified as Olina Ningshen, was safely released following coordinated efforts by the Assam Rifles and other agencies. She had been abducted from Namlee during clashes reported on May 7. The release took place south of Z Choro village, close to the incident site, under the supervision of Assam Rifles personnel and local authorities. Assam Rifles secure abducted woman after border unrest After securing her release, Assam Rifles escorted her husband, village headman, and representatives of civil society organisations (CSOs) to Humine Thana near Phaikoh, close to the handover point. The woman and her family were later taken to the Assam Rifles headquarters at Chassad for official documentation and formal handover procedures. Family escorted safely after coordinated rescue operation Officials said the family members, village representatives, and CSOs expressed relief and happiness after the successful operation. Assam Rifles also ensured medical examination and psychological assistance for the rescued woman before the family returned to their village, Khangpat Khn. Villagers evacuated from violence affected border areas The incident occurred amid unrest reported near Z Choro and opposite Namlee along the India-Myanmar border in the early hours of May 7. Assam Rifles troops swiftly responded to the volatile situation despite difficult conditions. Medical and psychological assistance provided to survivors During the operation, multiple rescue teams were deployed in the affected region. Ten houses impacted by the violence were secured, and several civilians were evacuated to safer locations. Fifteen villagers, including women and children, were rescued and provided humanitarian assistance at the Aloyo Assam Rifles camp. An injured woman also received immediate medical support and evacuation assistance. Armed cadre arrested during sanitisation search operations Simultaneously, Assam Rifles carried out sanitisation and search operations to prevent further escalation of violence. During the operations, one armed cadre identified as Lal Thag John, aged 38, was apprehended from Churachandpur along with a weapon, magazine, and ammunition before being handed over to local police. Assam rifles continue patrols across sensitive locations Assam Rifles said troops continue to patrol sensitive areas across Kamjong district to maintain peace and security. The force reiterated its commitment to protecting civilians and ensuring stability in the Northeast region.
