Vir Das supports ‘Cockroach Janta Party’:Actofr says ‘Shutting down its account is foolish; public sentiment was justified’

Comedian and actor Vir Das has strongly condemned the closure of the Cockroach Janta Party’s account. He says whether this party’s movement is right or not, time will tell. However, the sentiment of supporting the youth is completely clear and justified. Vir Das wrote from his official social media account- “Whether the Cockroach Janta Party is truly a right movement or not, that is not the real question right now. Time will answer that. But the support they received, the sentiment seen among the youth, and the kind of things that emerged, all of that is completely real and justified. And if that wasn’t enough, foolish acts like closing their accounts have further validated their point.” What is Cockroach Janta Party, and why did the controversy happen? Supreme Court Chief Justice Suryakant compared unemployed youth to cockroaches while hearing a petition on May 15. The statement soon went viral, after which Abhijit Deepak created an account named Cockroach Janta Party. This account posted memes against the government and posts related to youth issues, which started going viral, and soon the account’s followers began to grow rapidly. On May 18, the followers of this account first reached 5 million, then 10, and then 13 million, after which it received national coverage. And CJP (Cockroach Janta Party) started trending. In just 4 days, the number of followers of this account has reached 22 million, whereas the Bharatiya Janta Party currently has only 9 million followers. On May 21, the X account of Cockroach Janta Party was suspended, after which a new account was created, which read, ‘Cockroaches don’t die.’ Soon, followers of this second account also started increasing. Now, Abhijit Deepak, who created the page today, claimed on X that his Instagram account has been hacked. He is unable to log in to his account, although users can still see the account.
