The investigation into the suspicious death of actress and model Twisha Sharma continues to intensify, with a second postmortem examination of her body scheduled for Sunday in the presence of family members. The entire procedure will be videographed following directions issued by the Madhya Pradesh High Court. A four-member team of senior doctors from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS Delhi) arrived in Bhopal on Saturday evening aboard a state government chartered aircraft carrying advanced forensic equipment. Twisha’s body is currently being kept in the mortuary at AIIMS Bhopal. Investigating agencies may also revisit the scene of the incident to verify facts linked to the case. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court of India has reportedly taken suo motu cognisance of the matter, and the case is expected to be heard before the Chief Justice’s bench on Monday. Husband on seven-day police remand Accused husband Samarth Singh is currently on a seven-day police remand in Bhopal. During nearly two hours of questioning, he reportedly told police that their relationship remained normal after marriage. According to Samarth, Twisha’s pregnancy was confirmed on April 17, 2026, after which her behaviour allegedly began changing. He claimed that after returning from the hospital, Twisha said she wanted to go back to her home in Delhi and could not live a domestic life. The same evening, she allegedly flew to Delhi and later went to her residence in Noida. Samarth told investigators that after repeated persuasion, Twisha returned to Bhopal on April 23 along with her mother and brother. “She wanted to stay connected to the glamour world” Samarth stated that he had already booked tickets for Bengaluru on April 24. Initially, Twisha had agreed to accompany him, but later refused and allegedly said she wanted to visit her brother in Nasirabad, Ajmer. An argument reportedly took place between the couple over the issue. According to Samarth, Twisha told him, “Inform me once you return from Bengaluru, and I will come back.” He claimed he informed both families about the dispute and said relatives considered it a routine marital disagreement and advised reconciliation. Samarth further alleged that Twisha often said she belonged to the glamour world and that domestic life was “not for her.” However, police suspect that the accused may be giving misleading statements to protect himself. Investigators are now questioning him in detail about the events leading up to the incident. Twisha allegedly went to Ajmer before returning to Bhopal Samarth told police that Twisha travelled by train to Ajmer on April 24 to stay with her brother. Later, he allegedly learned that she stayed there for only one day before leaving for Delhi. According to him, Twisha returned to Bhopal on April 30 after he came back from Bengaluru. Couple went for evening walk before incident Samarth told police that on May 12, around 6 pm, Twisha returned home after visiting a beauty parlour. He said the couple then went for a walk in a nearby park between 6:30 pm and 7:30 pm. After returning home, they reportedly had dinner together and sat outside for some time before going to their room around 8:30 pm to watch television. According to Samarth, about half an hour later, Twisha went downstairs and was talking to her parents over the phone. He claimed he fell asleep due to exhaustion. “Mother said Twisha was crying” Samarth further stated that he later received a call from Twisha’s mother, who reportedly said Twisha sounded disturbed and was crying, and asked him to check on her. He claimed he told his mother, Giribala Singh, that Twisha may have gone to the terrace to talk privately. According to his statement, when his mother went upstairs, she allegedly found Twisha hanging from an elastic exercise belt. Samarth said he rushed upstairs after hearing screams and tried to support Twisha from below while his mother climbed onto a bed to loosen the noose. He claimed that after considerable effort, they brought her down and laid her on the bed. CPR attempted before hospitalisation According to Samarth, Twisha was approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighed around 80 kilograms, making it difficult to remove the noose quickly. He stated that relatives living nearby were called for help, and he attempted CPR, but there was no movement in her body. Twisha was then taken to AIIMS Bhopal in a car with the help of three people, where doctors declared her dead after examination. High Court ordered second postmortem on May 22 On Friday, the Madhya Pradesh High Court ordered a second postmortem examination of Twisha Sharma’s body. The court directed that the examination be conducted at AIIMS Bhopal under the supervision of a team led by the Director of AIIMS Delhi, and ordered videography of the entire process. Police were instructed to preserve the body until the procedure was completed. Meanwhile, the Madhya Pradesh government has written to the Centre recommending a CBI investigation into the case. Twisha’s father, Navnidhi Sharma, had met Chief Minister Mohan Yadav along with retired army personnel on May 20, after which the Chief Minister assured support for the investigation. Samarth’s bail plea withdrawn Samarth’s lawyer, Jaideep Kaurav, told reporters in Jabalpur that four separate matters related to the case were listed before the court. These included: Kaurav said the court issued notices and sought replies from concerned parties. The next hearing is scheduled for May 25 at 2:30 pm. He also confirmed that Samarth’s anticipatory bail application had been withdrawn. Government seeks cancellation of former judge’s bail Advocate General Prashant Singh said the state government had also approached the High Court seeking cancellation of anticipatory bail granted to Giribala Singh by a Bhopal district court. Representing the state, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta argued that conditional anticipatory bail was preventing investigators from receiving adequate cooperation and could potentially affect evidence collection. The court has directed the state government to serve notices to all concerned parties. Samarth produced before Bhopal court Samarth Singh was produced before a Bhopal district court on Saturday, which granted seven days of police remand. The court also ordered seizure of his passport following an application filed by Twisha’s family. However, Samarth’s legal team reportedly informed the court that he was willing to surrender the passport voluntarily. Police had earlier issued a lookout notice against him amid fears that he might flee abroad. He was brought from Jabalpur to Bhopal around 2 am on Friday night and kept at Katara Hills police station under heavy security. Before being presented in court, police also conducted his medical examination at JP Hospital in Bhopal. What happens next Second postmortem and funeral decision Twisha’s second postmortem examination will be conducted at AIIMS Bhopal on Sunday, with the entire process being videographed. After the procedure, the body will be handed over to the family. Relatives have not yet decided whether the last rites will take place in Bhopal or Delhi. They said a final decision would be taken only after the second postmortem report. Police to reconstruct crime scene During remand, police are expected to question Samarth about events from the day of the incident until his alleged attempt to evade investigators. He may also be taken to the crime scene as police attempt to reconstruct the sequence of events and gather additional evidence.
