The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has extended by 10 days the deadline given in a notice related to the demolition of allegedly illegal portions of properties linked to Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee, including his residence “Shantiniketan” on Harish Chatterjee Road. The original deadline was due to end on Monday. However, sources said Abhishek Banerjee wrote to the civic body on Sunday seeking more time to respond. Acting on his request, KMC granted an extension. Police team visits ‘Shantiniketan’ residence Amid these developments, a team of Kolkata Police visited Abhishek Banerjee’s Harish Chatterjee Road residence on Monday evening. Sources said “Shantiniketan” is allegedly owned by Leaps and Bounds Pvt Ltd, a company that has faced controversy during the Trinamool Congress government. Questions have been raised over whether the police visit was linked to fresh scrutiny involving the company or was simply a security-related inspection. Police officers, however, did not comment while leaving the residence. 17 properties under scrutiny Last Monday, KMC issued notices to two other addresses linked to Abhishek Banerjee on Kalighat Road and Harish Mukherjee Road. The civic body sought clarification on whether official permission had been taken for any additional construction. KMC had also directed the demolition of allegedly illegal portions of “Shantiniketan”. According to sources, 17 properties linked to Abhishek Banerjee are currently under scrutiny.
