A minor girl was allegedly murdered in the Dinhata area of Cooch Behar district in North Bengal, police said on Thursday, while her family alleged that she was subjected to sexual assault before being killed. Her body was recovered from a jute field in the Bamanhat-I Gram Panchayat area on Wednesday evening with a pair of leggings tied around her neck. Family alleges rape before murder Villagers and family members alleged that the minor was raped before her death. Police have confirmed the case as a homicide but said the allegation of sexual assault can only be verified after the post-mortem report is received. Girl went missing on Wednesday According to family members, the girl left home around 10 am on Wednesday but did not return. When she remained missing throughout the day, relatives and villagers began searching for her. Her body was later found in a nearby jute field with leggings tied around her neck. Leggings found tied around neck The family claimed that the leggings were the same ones she had been wearing when she left home and alleged that she was strangled to death. Sahebganj police recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination. The incident has triggered tension in the area, and police have launched an investigation. Probe on “The body has been sent for autopsy. The allegation of sexual assault can only be confirmed after the report arrives. A murder case has been registered and the investigation is underway,” a senior officer of the Cooch Behar district police said.
