In a major administrative reshuffle, the Governor of West Bengal on Wednesday approved a fresh allocation of portfolios in the newly constituted government led by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. The notification, issued under Clause (3) of Article 166 of the Constitution and signed by Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Agarwal, supersedes the earlier order dated May 13, 2026. Governor approves fresh ministry allocation notification As per the notification, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari retained key departments, including Home and Hill Affairs, Land and Land Reforms, Power, Information and Cultural Affairs, and Personnel and Administrative Reforms, besides overseeing all departments not specifically assigned to other ministers. Suvendu retains key departments under government Among the major cabinet appointments, Nishith Pramanik was entrusted with North Bengal Development and Water Resources Investigation and Development, while Dilip Ghosh took charge of Panchayats and Rural Development and Agricultural Marketing. Agnimitra Paul was assigned Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, and former Rajya Sabha member Swapan Dasgupta was given the crucial Finance portfolio. Senior BJP leaders receive major portfolios Dr. Sharadwat Mukherjee was appointed Minister for Health and Family Welfare, while Jagannath Chattopadhyay assumed charge of Higher Education and Technical Education. Tapas Roy was entrusted with Industry, Commerce, and Enterprises, while Arjun Singh was given charge of Labour and Transport. Malati Rava Roy was assigned Women and Child Development and Social Welfare, Self Help Group and Self Employment, and Programme Monitoring. Rajesh Mahata was given Animal Resources Development and Fisheries, while Dr. Indranil Khan took charge of Youth Services and Sports along with Consumer Affairs. State government completes administrative restructuring exercise In addition, 19 Ministers of State were allocated responsibilities across various departments, including Finance, Home, Health, Education, Agriculture, Urban Development, Tourism, Public Works, and Parliamentary Affairs, completing the formation of the new administrative structure. The order has been circulated to all relevant constitutional and administrative authorities and will be published in an extraordinary issue of the Kolkata Gazette for official record.
