Diljit Dosanjh on CJP Protest:Singer says, ‘I’m just an artist, not a politician’; asks to be kept away from politics

Singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh has responded to questions about the ongoing protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, making it clear that he wants no involvement in political issues. During an Instagram Live session, the actor said he is an entertainer and prefers to stay away from protests and political debates. The clarification comes amid the ongoing demonstration by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), which has been demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged NEET paper leak. Diljit responds during Instagram Live While interacting with fans on Instagram on Wednesday evening, one viewer asked Diljit for his views on the protest taking place at Jantar Mantar. Reacting to the question, Diljit said, “Is Jantar Mantar the place for protests? Please keep me away from such things. I am an artist, not a politician.” He added that he doesn’t know what people expect from him, but he wants to remain focused on his work in the entertainment industry and stay away from political controversies. Diljit quotes Guru Granth Sahib during Instagram Live During the Instagram Live session, Diljit Dosanjh shared a verse from the Guru Granth Sahib: “Nanak dukhiya sab sansar, so sukhiya jis naam adhar,” explaining that no one in the world is free from difficulties. He said, “Everything in life can never be perfect. It is simply not possible for everything to be alright all the time.” Without commenting directly on the controversy, Diljit added with a smile, “Congratulations to those who are protesting, and congratulations to those against whom the protest is happening. I honestly don’t know much about it.” Why is the protest happening? The protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar is being organised by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), a satirical organisation founded by Abhijeet Dipke. The group has been staging demonstrations since June 20, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged irregularities and paper leak in the NEET examination. Diljit had backed the farmers’ protest Diljit’s latest remarks have also reminded many of his stand during the 2020–21 farmers’ protest. At the time, he openly supported the farmers, visited the protest site at the Delhi border, and also extended financial assistance to the movement. In recent years, however, the singer-actor has largely avoided commenting on political issues. Has repeatedly ruled out joining politics Earlier this year, when a social organisation urged him to enter politics, Diljit politely declined. He also addressed the speculation on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “My job is to entertain people, and I am very happy doing that.” On the work front, Diljit was recently seen in Imtiaz Ali’s Main Wapas Aaunga, a film set against the backdrop of the India-Pakistan Partition, which has been receiving a positive response in theatres.
