Uzair Baloch’s brother shot in Karachi:Unidentified attackers open fire outside his Lyari residence; condition critical

In Karachi, Pakistan, Zubair Baloch, brother of gangster Uzair Baloch who is imprisoned in jail, was fired upon by unknown assailants on Thursday evening. This incident occurred outside his house in the Lyari area of Karachi. Zubair was seriously injured in the attack. According to police, bike-borne attackers opened fire on 40-year-old Zubair and fled from the scene. Two passersby were also injured along with Zubair in this attack. All three have been admitted to Civil Hospital in Karachi, where Zubair underwent surgery for bullet wounds to his chest and abdomen. According to the hospital, the condition of one of the injured passersby also remains critical. Investigation into gang war and old rivalry Deputy Inspector General (DIG) South, Syed Asad Raza, stated that Zubair was arrested in 2012 in seven criminal cases and had just been released from jail in January 2025. Police are investigating this case from the angles of gang war, mutual rivalry, and other possible reasons. Police have not ruled out any motive yet. Talks of gang war resuming in the area again A social worker from Lyari, on condition of anonymity, said that Zubair had recently joined a political party and had also put up party flags in the area a few months ago. The worker also claimed that there are talks in Lyari that many gangsters who had fled to Dubai and Iran during the Karachi Operation have returned. This has created fear among local people of gang war starting again. Several serious cases registered against Uzair Baloch Uzair Baloch was once counted among Karachi’s most influential gang leaders and is currently imprisoned. In March this year, an anti-terrorism court had rejected his bail petitions in seven cases related to murder, police encounters and possession of explosives. Uzair and others are accused of attacking security forces with weapons and explosives in 2012 in the jurisdiction of Kalakot police station. In April 2020, a military court had sentenced Uzair to 12 years imprisonment after finding him guilty of espionage.
