Census 2027 self-enumeration begins across WB:Complete Census forms by August 15; door-to-door numeration starts from August 16

The Census 2027 exercise has begun across West Bengal, with the first phase focusing on self-enumeration from August 1 to August 15. Residents answer 33 questions online During this period, residents can complete their Census details online through the official self-enumeration portal by answering 33 questions related to their personal, family, and household information. Officials said the voluntary process takes around 10 minutes to complete and does not require the upload of any supporting documents. SEID generated after successful online submission After successfully submitting the form, residents will receive an 11-digit Self-Enumeration ID (SEID), which must be saved and shared with Census enumerators when they visit households later. The SEID will allow officials to access the information already submitted online, making the enumeration process faster and more efficient. Field enumeration begins from August sixteen The next stage of the Census, field enumeration, will be conducted between August 16 and September 14, during which Census officials will visit households to verify details and collect information on housing conditions, access to amenities such as drinking water, toilets, electricity, cooking fuel, internet connectivity, and ownership of household assets, including televisions, computers, and vehicles. Online registration process explained for citizens To complete self-enumeration, residents must register on the official portal using their mobile number, verify it through an OTP, create an account, fill in the required details, submit the form, and retain the generated SEID for future verification. Those who do not complete the online process will still be covered during the door-to-door enumeration by Census officials. Census returns after 15-year nationwide gap The nationwide Census is being conducted after a 15-year gap, with the last exercise held in 2011. Although the process begins this year, it is officially named Census 2027 as the final report is expected to be published in March 2027.
