Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said on Sunday that the courage shown by India’s youth in standing up to what he called Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s violent rule was commendable. He also praised female students who, he said, faced misbehaviour, verbal abuse and violence from BJP members. Rahul Gandhi shared a video on social media showing his conversation with students who had protested last month, demanding the resignation of then Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the paper leak issue. The students allegedly faced police excesses on July 20. Rahul listened to their accounts of alleged police “brutality” and “harassment” after they raised their voices. The conversation took place earlier this month.
