BJP targets Congress over women’s representation:3 women ministers in 4 states; none in Himachal, Karnataka

The BJP has criticised the Congress over the number of women ministers in states ruled by the party. BJP national spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Sudhanshu Trivedi said on Friday that while the Congress talks about increasing women’s representation in politics, the situation in its own state governments tells a different story. He said there is a big gap between what the party says and what it does. Trivedi said the Congress is in power in four states. According to him, Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka do not have a single woman minister. Kerala had two women ministers, and Telangana also had two, but one of the ministers in Telangana was removed. This means there are now only three women ministers across the four Congress-ruled states. He described this as a major injustice to women. Question to Congress on Women’s Reservation The BJP leader also questioned the silence of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi. He said the Congress has repeatedly spoken about increasing women’s participation in politics, but its approach to the number of women ministers in states ruled by the party appears different. Trivedi referred to a letter written by Kharge in which he demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi implement 33% reservation for women. He said that if the Congress is serious about women’s political representation, this should also be reflected in the governments run by the party in the states. He said the Congress’s position does not appear consistent in its views, statements and decisions. According to Trivedi, this is why questions are being raised about the party’s credibility on women’s political representation. Sudhanshu said – Most women ministers are in the Modi government Sudhanshu Trivedi also compared the Congress’s position with that of the Modi government at the Centre. He claimed that the Narendra Modi government has the highest number of women ministers in the country’s history. He said there is a major difference between the Modi government’s record on issues concerning women and the claims made by the Congress. Accusing the Congress of facing a ‘crisis of credibility’, the BJP leader said that under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, there is a clear difference between what the party says and the decisions it takes while running governments.
