Gold and diamond jewellery worth around ₹5 lakh was stolen from Ameesha Patel’s parents’ home in Churchgate. Marine Drive police have arrested a 40-year-old domestic worker in connection with the case. The accused is currently in police custody until September 15. Ameesha said her family is safe Speaking to The Times of India, Ameesha said she spoke to her parents for an hour and confirmed that the maid had been arrested and confessed to the crime. She said she was relieved that her family was safe and no one was injured. Ashmit said the theft happened in January Ameesha’s brother Ashmit, who lives with their parents, said the domestic worker had been working at their home for around a year. According to him, the theft took place in January, but the family filed a complaint only recently. Parents gave the maid time to return jewellery Ashmit said his parents questioned the maid about the missing jewellery and even gave her time to think and return it. However, she did not return the jewellery. The maid left the job at the end of June. Police investigation is underway Ashmit said the stolen jewellery was worth around ₹5 lakh. The domestic worker has now been arrested, and the police investigation is underway. How was the domestic worker arrested? Seema Ghate, a 40-year-old woman, had been working at Amisha Patel’s house for the past year. She is a resident of Palghar. According to the police, a bracelet was stolen from their house in January 2026. After the theft, Amisha’s mother, Asha, suspected Seema. For the next five to six months, they asked Seema to confess to the theft and return the jewellery. She continued to deny stealing it and then left the job. Some time ago, Ameesha’s mother filed a complaint at Marine Drive Police Station against an unidentified woman. Following the complaint, the crime detection team began an investigation on the senior police inspector’s instructions. The team traced the suspected woman to Virar. Seema Ghate was subsequently taken into custody. She was produced in court, which granted police custody until 15 September. Police are trying to recover the missing jewellery. They are also investigating whether the accused has any previous criminal record.
