The US House of Representatives has passed a resolution honouring Indian pilot Captain Smit Machchhar for his bravery during the attack on flydubai flight FZ1073 on September 30. The resolution described the incident as a terrorist attack and praised the passengers who helped capture the attacker. It was passed with support from members of both major US political parties. Captain Machchhar attacked in cockpit, seriously injured Flight FZ1073 was travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv when Captain Machchhar was attacked inside the cockpit. He suffered serious injuries in the incident. Some passengers then entered the cockpit and helped capture the attacker. The aircraft was diverted to Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, where Captain Machchhar received emergency medical treatment. He was later taken to the UAE for further treatment. Dentist tried to stop bleeding for 45 minutes Dentist Dr. Shota Musev reached the cockpit after hearing screams. He found Captain Machchhar lying on the floor and bleeding heavily. Musev said the pilot had deep wounds on his head and left arm. He pressed the wounds with a T-shirt to control the bleeding, but the blood continued to flow. He then asked the crew for ice and continued applying pressure to the wounds for around 45 minutes. Musev said the bleeding became heavier whenever he removed the T-shirt to check the injuries. Asked about children to keep pilot conscious Musev kept talking to Captain Machchhar to prevent him from losing consciousness. He asked him about his children and their names and reassured him that he would soon be reunited with his family. Machchhar told Musev his name and age and said he lived in Dubai and was from India. During the ordeal, he reportedly said, “Please help me. I want to live. I don’t want to die here.” Musev said the pilot’s pulse became very weak at one point. He raised Machchhar’s legs, after which his pulse returned. When the pilot’s lips turned blue, Musev told the crew that the aircraft needed to land as soon as possible. Machchhar asked for pain medication, but Musev refused, saying the pilot had lost a significant amount of blood and that moving him or giving medication could have caused further bleeding. Passengers tied attacker with headphone cables While treating Machchhar, Musev also helped passengers restrain the attacker. The passengers used headphone cables to tie the attacker’s hands and legs. When the attacker tried to break free, the passengers tightened the restraints. He eventually stopped resisting. The aircraft later landed in Tabuk, where Machchhar was treated before being taken to the UAE for further medical care.
