The ‘Varanasi to Vadnagar Seva Yatra’ concluded in Vadnagar on Wednesday (7 Oct) as Prime Minister Narendra Modi completed 25 years of public service and governance. The concluding ceremony was organised under the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ and was attended by several senior leaders, including Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. The leaders also felicitated bikers who participated in the yatra. Bhupendra Patel said, ‘Power was treated as a means of service’ Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said, “Narendra Modi took charge as Gujarat Chief Minister on October 7, 2001. He treated power not as a position but as a means to serve people.” Patel claimed that policies of the Modi government had helped 25 crore people move out of poverty and that India had become one of the world’s top five economies. Shivraj Singh Chouhan called it a historic achievement Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said, “Working continuously for the poor and the country for 25 years without taking a single day’s break was a historic achievement.” Praising the youth who participated in the yatra, he said, “A true youth is one who has patriotism in the heart and speed in the feet.” Shubhendu Adhikari says service yatra strengthened India’s unity West Bengal Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari said, “The sacred land of Vadnagar had given the country a strong mass leader. The Seva Yatra connected the eastern and western parts of the country, as well as the north and south, and strengthened social harmony and national unity.” Yatra covered 10 states Around 500 bikers and service volunteers travelled through hundreds of villages and cities across 10 states, carrying out social initiatives including cleanliness drives, plantation activities and anti-drug campaigns. As part of the yatra, water from Vadnagar’s Sharmishtha Lake was taken to Kashi Vishwanath. In return, the holy water brought from Varanasi was used for the abhishek of Vadnagar’s historic Hatkeshwar Mahadev temple.
