Actor Ranvir Shorey has strongly opposed the ‘Cockroach Janta Party’ (CJP)’s street protest in Delhi. In a post shared on the social media platform X, Ranvir said that people should put forward their views through the courts, Parliament and the democratic system instead of taking to the streets. He described blocking roads and disrupting law and order as the “murder of democracy”. The controversy emerged after CJP leaders were detained while demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. ‘Show your numbers in Parliament and through votes’ Reposting a video by CJP spokesperson Saurav Das, Ranvir Shorey wrote that they should show their strength through Parliament and votes in elections instead of displaying it on the streets. If they do not consider this route appropriate, they should approach the courts-that is the real democratic way. He said that occupying public property and troubling ordinary people could not be justified in any way. ‘Protests Should Be Only the Last Resort’ Ranveer went on to write that in any democracy, protests should be the last resort, not a means of bypassing the judiciary or legislature. He said that creating a daily ruckus on the streets in the name of the right to express dissent and making life difficult for ordinary people was wrong. According to him, directly staging protests without using the legal options available is merely a way to spread anarchy or gain publicity. Kangana Says-Conspiracy to Destabilise the Country Actress Kangana Ranaut has described the leadership of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) as “traitorous and terrorist forces”. Kangana said a conspiracy was being hatched to destabilise the country and that ordinary people themselves would now catch these forces and demand answers. Kangana said, “Forget the police, now the general public itself will catch these people and question them because people have begun to identify them.” She further said that agencies were working to protect the country, but it was important to ensure that ordinary citizens did not face any inconvenience. CJP demanding CEC’s resignation CJP and opposition parties are demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the special intensive revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls. A protest was scheduled to be held at Jantar Mantar on 10 October over the issue. However, on Saturday and Sunday, police stopped protesters from reaching Jantar Mantar. According to the police, permission had not been granted for the protest. Thousands of protesters from CJP, opposition parties and student organisations were detained over the two days. Education minister’s resignation was obtained three months ago CJP had also led a major protest three months ago, under pressure from which the then education minister was forced to resign. Since then, the organisation has continued to hold protests over issues related to administrative and electoral reforms.
