Prakash Raj says: India is not bangladesh or nepal; change of power will come through democracy Actor Prakash Raj is once again in the spotlight over his political remarks. Supporting the demand for a change in government, he said that the transfer of power in India should take place democratically. In an interview with India Today, citing bangladesh and nepal as examples, he said India was not like those countries. Here, the Constitution and the right to vote exist alongside the legacy of Dr B.R. Ambedkar, Mahatma Gandhi and Bhagat Singh. Prakash Raj said the fight for a change in government would be waged democratically. According to him, elections and constitutional rights should be used to bring about political change. He said the fight would continue from the Uttar Pradesh elections through the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. Prakash Raj says demand for change of government is not violence or anarchy Prakash Raj said that people in India have the right to vote and protest. He stressed that the demand for a change of government should not be viewed as being linked to violence or anarchy. According to him, citizens can question the government while staying within the constitutional framework and bring about change through elections. His statement came at a time when political debate over demands for a change of government and the examples of bangladesh and nepal has intensified. The BJP has questioned some statements by the Opposition, while protesters say the issue is linked to democratic rights. Questions raised over detention ahead of the Tiranga march Prakash Raj questioned the detention of Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Deepke ahead of the proposed Tiranga March in Delhi. The protest was to be held against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Those associated with the protest have raised questions over alleged irregularities in the Special intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls and demanded the Chief Election commissioner’s resignation. Prakash Raj questioned the stopping and detention of peaceful protesters. He said citizens have the right to express themselves in a democracy. He asked why they were being stopped if they wanted to voice their concerns while carrying the national flag. Also referred to the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, Prakash Raj asked why objections were being raised during protests when people were being urged to carry the national flag across the country. He said young people wanted to put forward their views peacefully while carrying the Tiranga. The actor alleged that force was being used to silence the protesters. He asked why the government or the institutions concerned did not respond with facts and evidence if the allegations against them were false. He said that instead of stopping those asking questions, answers should be given to the questions. Talk of a democratic fight until the 2029 Lok Sabha elections Prakash Raj made it clear that he was emphasising peaceful protest and political change through the electoral process. He said that a change of power in India should take place along the path shown by Mahatma Gandhi and that young people should raise their voices democratically. He said that people’s voices cannot be silenced by suppressing their questions. According to Prakash Raj, citizens will continue to use their constitutional rights to demand answers from the government. His statement has brought the demand for a change in power, protests and the ongoing political debate over democratic rights back into focus.
