A firing incident involving actor Tiger Shroff’s car took place in Mumbai on October 18. Tiger was leaving the Juhu area after playing football when shots were fired at his car. The actor escaped unharmed, but his driver and another person were injured. Security was later increased outside his residence. The Mumbai Police Protection Branch has provided Tiger with police security, deploying bodyguards to protect him. A police officer and additional personnel from the local police station have also been assigned to his security. The accused allegedly told investigators that they had earlier conducted reconnaissance of Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar. However, they reportedly changed their plan because of the high level of security around these actors. Which bollywood celebrities have security cover? In India, security cover is provided based on an assessment of the threat to an individual, not simply their popularity. At the central level, the Ministry of Home Affairs takes decisions based on inputs from intelligence agencies. State governments also make security arrangements within their jurisdictions. Depending on the threat assessment, security cover can be increased, reduced or withdrawn. Several Bollywood celebrities have been provided security under different categories. However, their security arrangements may change over time based on updated threat assessments. Salman Khan – Y+ category security Salman Khan was given Y+ category security after receiving threats in November 2022. His security detail includes Mumbai Police personnel and armed commandos. Security arrangements were strengthened after the firing outside his home in April 2024. Following the firing at Tiger’s car, reports said that additional police surveillance and barricading had been put in place outside Salman’s home. Shah Rukh Khan – Y+ category security The Maharashtra government upgraded Shah Rukh Khan’s security to the Y+ category in October 2023. Before this, two police constables provided him with security. Shah Rukh received death threats after the success of the films ‘Pathaan’ and ‘Jawan’. He then asked the state government to enhance his security. Under Y+ security, 11 security personnel are deployed with Shah Rukh Khan. They include six commandos, who protect him in three shifts. In addition, five armed police personnel are deployed to guard his Mumbai home, ‘Mannat’. Shah Rukh Khan bears the cost of this security arrangement himself. It is a paid security arrangement. Under it, the actor pays the Maharashtra government for the security expenses. Kangana Ranaut – Y+ Category Security The central government provided Kangana Ranaut with Y+ category security in September 2020. She became the first Bollywood actress to receive this type of security cover. The responsibility for her security was assigned to commandos from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). At the time, a dispute was underway between Kangana and Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut following Sushant Singh Rajput’s death. Kangana faced criticism and threats after comparing Mumbai with Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). She was also warned not to come to Mumbai. After this, Kangana’s father requested security. Following a threat assessment, the central government decided to provide her with Y+ security. Amitabh Bachchan – X-category security After reviewing Amitabh Bachchan’s security in November 2022, the Maharashtra government upgraded it to X-category security. Before this, he had standard police protection. Under this arrangement, Mumbai Police personnel remain deployed to protect him. Akshay Kumar – X-category security The Maharashtra government provided Akshay Kumar with X-category security following a threat assessment. An investigation after the firing at Tiger found that Akshay Kumar’s home had also been reconnoitred. Some media reports subsequently claimed that work had begun to install bulletproof glass at Akshay’s home in Juhu. However, according to an India Today report, there were no clear signs at the site of additional police forces or the installation of bulletproof glass. Anupam Kher – X-category security There were reports that Anupam Kher had been provided X-category security after receiving threats following the release of the film ‘The Kashmir Files’, based on a security assessment. The latest official information is required to confirm his current security arrangements. After assessing the threat in 2022, the Maharashtra government provided Anupam Kher with X-category security. At the time, reports emerged that he had received threats following the release of the film ‘The Kashmir Files’. It is worth noting that VIP security is reviewed from time to time. Information on whether Anupam Kher is currently receiving X-category security is not available. Vivek Agnihotri – Y-category security The central government provided film director Vivek Agnihotri with Y-category security in March 2022. The decision was taken following the release of the film ‘The Kashmir Files’. The film was released on 11 March 2022. According to media reports, Vivek Agnihotri had been receiving threats after the film’s release. The Intelligence Bureau (IB) then assessed the threat to his security. Based on the report, a decision was taken to provide him with security. Aamir Khan – Local Police or Private Security In July 2026, reports emerged that Aamir Khan had allegedly received a threat. The Lawrence gang was named on social media and in an alleged voice note. Following this, police were deployed outside his home in Mumbai’s Bandra. After the incident in which Tiger’s car was fired upon, the investigation also revealed that Aamir Khan’s home had allegedly been surveilled. Following this, police patrols around his home were increased. Rohit Shetty – Police Surveillance Outside His House Firing took place outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s house in Mumbai’s Juhu area on 1 February, with the attackers firing four to five rounds. After the incident, the Mumbai Police Crime Branch began an investigation and arrested several accused. Police were then deployed outside his house. Surveillance outside Rohit Shetty’s house was further intensified after the firing at Tiger’s car.
