A Mumbai court has remanded four accused in the firing case involving Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff’s car to police custody until October 28. The accused have been identified as Kunal Sanjay, Sumit Saroliya, Radha Verma and Babita Rao. According to the police, the four allegedly played a role in supplying the weapons used in the firing and in the conspiracy behind the attack. The Mumbai Crime Branch had sought their custody until October 31, but the court granted it only until October 28. Investigators are now tracing how the weapons were purchased and transported to Mumbai, while also probing the network allegedly involved in the attack. Police probing links in the purchase and supply of weapons According to an Aaj Tak report, police allege that Kunal and Sumit had travelled to Amritsar to procure weapons. Radha and Babita, meanwhile, are accused of helping transport the weapons to Mumbai by train and deliver them to the attackers. Police are investigating these roles. According to police, photographs, videos and data related to weapons were recovered from the accused’s mobile phones. The investigating agency is verifying this digital evidence. Police say the Signal app was used for communication between the accused and was allegedly deleted. Investigators are working to establish the accused’s contacts with one another and their roles based on the data recovered from the phones. Claim of weapon-related conversations found in voice notes According to the report, voice notes recovered from the accused’s mobile phones contain conversations about the purchase and delivery of weapons, as well as instructions to send them back after the firing. Police claim that the accused were acting on Anil Pandit’s instructions and had helped provide weapons to those who carried out the firing. However, these allegations are yet to be established through the investigation and judicial process. Police told the court that further questioning of the accused was necessary. The investigating agency wants to match their statements with information obtained from those arrested earlier. Police also need to determine the respective roles of those allegedly involved in the plan to purchase the weapons, deliver them to the attackers and send them back after the incident. Defence opposed police custody During the hearing, the defence opposed extending the accused’s police custody. According to the report, defence lawyer Ajinkya Mirgal argued that it was not necessary to keep the accused in continuous police custody solely for questioning. He said the accused could also be questioned about the other co-accused while in judicial custody, with the court’s permission. The police, on the other hand, argued that data recovered from the accused’s mobile phones had to be analysed and that they had to be questioned while being confronted with the co-accused arrested earlier. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court extended the police custody of all four accused until 28 October. The police had sought custody until 31 October.
