The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), in coordination with other central agencies, has secured the extradition of Sourabh Chandrakar, promoter of the Mahadev App alleged illegal betting syndicate, from Oman. Chandrakar was detained by the Royal Oman Police following an Interpol Red Corner Notice issued against him. He is wanted in two CBI cases, in which chargesheets have already been filed, and one Enforcement Directorate (ED) case, in which a prosecution complaint has been submitted. Syndicate operated through franchised panels across India The CBI investigation found that the Mahadev Online Book was among India’s largest alleged illegal online betting syndicates. It reportedly operated through a network of franchised panels and branches across the country. The syndicate allegedly offered betting on cricket, football, card games and other events. Its proceeds were routed through mule bank accounts, multiple transactions and hawala channels. Investigators also found that part of the proceeds was allegedly used to pay protection money to public servants.
