The Calcutta High Court bench hearing the RG Kar rape and murder case has recused itself from the matter. During Tuesday’s hearing, Justices Raja Sekhar Mantha and Ray Chattopadhyay said they were unable to devote adequate time to the case due to other pending matters. The High Court observed that the matter was of great importance and under global scrutiny, making it necessary to devote sufficient time to the proceedings. The bench said the Chief Justice had been informed about its decision to step aside, and further action, including the possible formation of a commission, would now be decided by him.
