Police in Palghar have solved the murder case of a civil engineer whose decomposed body was found stuffed inside a blue drum in a drain last month. A woman and her brother have been arrested in connection with the case, while two other accused remain absconding. The victim, 24-year-old Arbaaz Khan, was a resident of Thane and worked for a private company in Dombivli. Body found in blue drum The case came to light on April 5 when police recovered a decomposed body inside a blue plastic drum from a drain in the Virar Phata area. The family later identified the body as Arbaaz, who had gone missing two days earlier. According to police, Arbaaz had left home on April 3 saying he was going to Mumbai for work but did not return. His family then filed a missing complaint, prompting an investigation. Murder linked to money dispute Police said Arbaaz was in a relationship with a nurse, Mahjabeen Sheikh, and had lent her money. He had been asking her to return the amount, which allegedly led to repeated disputes between them. During the investigation, police traced Mahjabeen through Arbaaz’s call records and mobile location data. She was detained for questioning, during which she allegedly confessed to the murder plot. Called on pretext of repayment, killed in deserted area According to police, Mahjabeen, along with her husband, brother Tariq Sheikh and another accomplice, allegedly called Arbaaz to a deserted spot in Vasai on the pretext of returning his money. Investigators said Arbaaz’s hands and legs were tied, and he was beaten to death with a PVC pipe. The accused then stuffed the body into a blue drum and dumped it in the drain. Two arrested, two on the run Police have arrested Mahjabeen Sheikh and her brother Tariq Sheikh. Her husband and another accused are currently absconding, and a search operation is underway to trace them.
