Female students residing at the University Hostel for Women (UHW) of Delhi University staged a protest on campus on Thursday night, alleging forced eviction, disruption of basic facilities and imposition of additional charges by the hostel administration. According to the All India Students’ Association (AISA), students began a sit-in protest on the road around 9:30pm, and demonstrations continued past midnight. Students allege pressure to vacate hostel The protesting students claimed that despite paying hostel fees for June and July, they were being pressured to vacate their rooms. They also alleged that water supply was cut off in two hostel blocks and chairs were removed from the reading room, causing difficulties for students preparing for semester examinations and NEET. AISA said students had been under continuous pressure from the administration for the past week. Protest over ₹450 daily charge The student organisation alleged that following an earlier protest on May 16, the hostel warden had verbally assured students that facilities would be restored and their stay extended. However, according to AISA, the administration later reversed its position and issued an order asking students staying in the hostel to pay an additional ₹450 per day. AISA described the move as “extortion” and said it violated students’ dignity and rights. Demands raised by students The protesting students and AISA demanded: Resignation of the UHW Provost Restoration of 24-hour water supply Continued hostel accommodation without extra charges Post navigation In Noida protest case, Aakriti arrested before violence erupted:Lawyer says police yet to show proof of alleged ₹1 crore transaction Anusha Dandekar’s cryptic post after Karan Kundra and Tejasswi’s engagement:Actress clarifies, ‘If I have something to say, I will say it directly’
