Centre has announced this year’s Padma Awards, with veteran actor Dharmendra set to receive the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian honour. Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren, singer Alka Yagnik and former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Bhagat Singh Koshyari are among the 13 personalities selected for the Padma Bhushan award. Actor R Madhavan, cricketer Rohit Sharma, para-athlete Praveen Kumar, Indian women’s cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur and hockey player Savita Punia will be honoured with the Padma Shri. President Droupadi Murmu will confer the awards at Rashtrapati Bhavan. This year, 131 Padma Awards have been announced, including 19 women awardees. Six recipients belong to the foreign/NRI/PIO/OCI category, while 16 personalities will be honoured posthumously. The awards were officially announced by the Central government on January 25. Padma Vibhushan for 5 personalities Apart from Dharmendra, the Padma Vibhushan will also be conferred upon former Supreme Court judge K T Thomas, Communist veteran and former Kerala Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan, among others. Padma Bhushan for 13 awardees The Padma Bhushan list includes Alka Yagnik, Shibu Soren, Bhagat Singh Koshyari and several other distinguished personalities from fields including arts, medicine, public affairs and social work. 113 personalities to receive Padma Shri The Padma Shri honours will be presented to 113 personalities from across sports, cinema, literature, public service and other fields, including Madhavan, Rohit Sharma, Harmanpreet Kaur and Savita Punia.
