A rare white buffalo nicknamed “Donald Trump” has been rescued from sacrifice in Bangladesh after its growing popularity on social media prompted government intervention ahead of Eid. The 700-kg buffalo, raised at Rabeya Agro Farm in Narayanganj near Dhaka, had reportedly been sold for sacrifice at 3.85 lakh Bangladeshi Taka (around ₹3 lakh). Farm owner Zia Uddin Mairda said the animal was priced at 550 Taka per kilogram for Eid. However, as photos and videos of the buffalo went viral online, attracting large crowds to the farm, Bangladesh’s Ministry of Home Affairs stepped in and halted the sacrifice. Authorities announced on Wednesday that the animal would instead be shifted to Dhaka’s National Zoo for protection and care. Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed directed officials to ensure the buffalo’s safety. The government also assured that the buyer who purchased the buffalo for sacrifice would receive a full refund. This buffalo was raised at Rabeya Agro Farm, located in Narayanganj, a short distance from the capital Dhaka Why the buffalo became famous The buffalo drew widespread attention because of its unusual appearance, especially the tuft of golden hair on its head that many people said resembled the hairstyle of US President Donald Trump. Social media users quickly nicknamed the animal “Donald Trump”. Visitors from across the country began arriving at the farm to see the buffalo, with children, families and influencers taking photos and videos. The sudden rush raised security concerns, leading authorities to intervene. Rare albino breed According to the farm owner, the buffalo is a four-year-old albino breed with a rare white-pinkish colour. Officials from the Department of Livestock Services reportedly requested police assistance to protect the animal, saying it was still young and could live for many more years. The buffalo has now been moved to the Bangladesh National Zoo, where a separate enclosure has been prepared for it. Zoo curator Atiqur Rahman said the animal will remain under quarantine and observation for two weeks before being opened for public viewing.
