Meanwhile, the Malayalam film ‘Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra’ grossed approximately ₹300 crore on a budget of ₹30 crore. Marathi cinema is also an example of this change. For example, ‘Dashavatar’ collected ₹28.47 crore on a budget of ₹12 crore, providing a return of over 220% compared to the investment. This film also became the first Marathi film to make it to the Academy Awards contention list for the Oscar 2026. Analysis: Gujarati film earned 224 times, 17 regional films became blockbusters in two years Sacnik analyzed 17 successful regional films. Out of these, 7 films gave 10 times or more return… meaning approximately 41% of the films earned 10 times or more of their cost. Increasing Share at the Box Office According to PVR INOX data, the share of regional films in the total box office collection was 27% in 2024, which increased to 31% in 2025. Meanwhile, the share of Hindi films remained stable at around 55-56%. The share of English films decreased from 18% to 14%.
