Four members of the same family died in Mumbai’s J.J. Marg area after allegedly consuming contaminated food. The deceased have been identified as Abdullah Abdul Kadar (40), his wife Nasreen (35), and their daughters Zainab (13) and Ayesha (16). Police suspect food poisoning as the cause. According to the police, the incident followed a get-together hosted by the family at their residence on 25 April, attended by several relatives. The family and their guests had eaten biryani during the gathering. Watermelon consumption raises suspicion After the meal, Abdullah, Nasreen and their two daughters reportedly consumed watermelon. Soon afterwards, their health began to deteriorate. All four were initially taken to a private hospital. Due to the severity of their condition, they were later shifted to J.J. Hospital, where they died during treatment. Preliminary findings Initial investigations suggest that guests who only consumed the biryani did not report any illness. The family’s condition worsened only after eating the watermelon, raising suspicion about possible contamination. Police have registered a case of accidental death and are awaiting the histopathology report following the post-mortem examinations. The report is expected to confirm the exact cause of death.
