RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat said that India is already a Hindu nation and there is no need to formally declare it. He said that the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya was made possible due to the commitment of those in power and the support of people across the country. Bhagwat was speaking on Monday at a programme organised by the Dr Hedgewar Smarak Samiti in Reshimbagh, Nagpur, Maharashtra. The event was held to honour those under whose leadership and guidance the Ram Temple was built. 2 photos of the honor ceremony: The sun rises in the east—does that need to be declared? He said that if there had not been such a large Ram Janmabhoomi movement and commitment from those in power, the construction of the temple would not have been possible. The country chose a path, and the result of that is visible today. Bhagwat said that earlier people used to mock the idea of calling India a Hindu nation, but now the same people refer to it as the land of Hindus. He said, “The sun rises in the east—does it need to be declared? In the same way, India is a Hindu nation.” He said that this felicitation ceremony is a way of expressing gratitude to those who contributed to the construction of the temple. Now it is society’s responsibility to make the country stronger and more prosperous. He concluded that India’s progress will come only through the efforts of its people. No other country will save India. He said India will become great and will guide the world—that is certain. Contribution of every citizen in temple construction According to the RSS statement, Bhagwat said the Ram Temple was built by the will of Lord Ram. He compared it to Lord Krishna lifting the Govardhan mountain. He said that just as everyone’s contribution was necessary to lift Govardhan, similarly every individual contributed to the temple’s construction. He said that the mountain rests on Lord’s finger, but that finger does not rise unless people place their own sticks underneath it. In the same way, the temple was built. He said every citizen of the country contributed to it. Independence in 1947, but lack of confidence For the revival of Sanatan Dharma, the upliftment of India is essential. This idea was presented 150 years ago by Aurobindo. He said that as people continue to contribute, the resolution moves towards fulfilment. This process of revival began in 1857. In this context, he referred to the 2014 Lok Sabha elections and said that when the new government led by Narendra Modi took oath, The Guardian newspaper in London wrote that on this day India had finally said goodbye to the British. Bhagwat said, “Technically we got independence on 15 August 1947, but at that time there was not complete self-confidence.” He questioned whether the Ram Temple would have been built if those in power had not been committed.
