7 people died after a hospital wall collapsed amid heavy rainfall in Bengaluru, on Wednesday. Three of the deceased were children. Seven injured people have been rescued. Street vendors and passers-by present near the road at the time of the incident were caught under the debris. Several people were trapped under the rubble and were later pulled out by rescue teams. Preliminary information suggests that the wall of Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital weakened due to heavy rain. However, the administration has said that the cause of the incident is under investigation. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah visited the site, reviewed the situation, and announced an ex gratia of ₹5 lakh each for the families of the deceased. The opposition has criticised the government, calling it an administrative failure. The government, however, said that street vendors were allowed to sell goods in the area. Out of the 7 injured, 3 were from Kerala and had come to Bengaluru for sightseeing. An eyewitness said the accident was so severe that bodies had to be pulled out from the debris, and some people even lost their limbs.
