India Post launches DIGIPIN for precise digital addresses:10-character code to work alongside existing PIN codes

India Post has launched “DigiPIN,” or Digital Postal Index Number, to digitally identify locations across the country. Each location will receive a unique 10-letter and 10-digit code. This will allow for more accurate identification than the current 6-digit PIN code. Importantly, DigiPin will not replace the existing PIN code. It can be used in conjunction with the old address and PIN code. It was developed by the Department of Posts in collaboration with IIT Hyderabad and ISRO’s National Remote Sensing Centre.
