Uterus-like structure found in 26-year-old Delhi man:Went for infertility treatment; 300 such cases worldwide

During an infertility evaluation of a 26-year-old man from Delhi, structures resembling a uterus and fallopian tubes were found inside his abdomen. Both testicles were also located inside the abdomen. The man had visited RG Hospitals in Rajouri Garden for treatment of primary infertility. Tests found no sperm in his semen, a condition known as azoospermia.
An MRI showed a uterus-like structure inside the pelvis. The case came to light following a report by news agency ANI. According to doctors, it may be a rare congenital condition known as persistent Müllerian duct syndrome (PMDS). Both of the man’s testes had failed to descend. They had remained inside the abdomen for a long time and had severely shrunk. According to media reports, only 300 such cases have been reported worldwide. The cause of infertility in this case This young man’s testicles were left inside the abdomen and had shrunk severely. High body temperatures can damage sperm production over time. This patient’s testicles were already severely damaged, leading to azoospermia. Assisted reproductive technologies may be an option for some men, depending on the function of the remaining testicles. However, fertility outcomes can vary from person to person, depending on the location and function of the testicles. Other fertility abnormalities can also play a role.
