In the assembly elections of five states, the most distinct trend in Muslim seats was seen in Bengal. Here, out of 142 Muslim seats, BJP got 72, TMC got 64, and Congress got 2 seats. Meanwhile, in Assam’s 22 Muslim-majority seats, Congress got 18, and AIUDF got 2 seats. In Kerala’s 44 Muslim-majority seats, IUML got 21 and Congress got 14 seats. Congress contested a total of 390 seats in Bengal and Assam. It won 21 seats, out of which 20 are Muslim candidates. In Kerala, Congress contested 114 seats and won 63 seats. Here, 8 of its Muslim candidates won the election. AIUDF leader Badruddin Ajmal sarcastically remarked, ‘In Assam, Congress has now become the Muslim League.’ Previously, AIUDF had an alliance with Congress. Meanwhile, TMC, which has been in power for 15 years, fielded 47 Muslim candidates. Congress had also fielded Muslim candidates on 94 seats in 2021. In many seats in Assam, the winning rate of Muslim candidates from Congress and its allies has been more than 80 percent. In many seats, Congress candidates won by a margin of more than 1 lakh votes.
