15 people have died in the fire that broke out in a 2-storey building in Lucknow. Since the incident, many big questions have been raised about the safety arrangements. Meanwhile, Bollywood celebrities have also condemned the incident and lashed out at the government. Actress Devoleena Bhattacharjee expressed her anger over the fire incident and wrote, ‘Power is a dangerous addiction. It can make even well-intentioned leaders indifferent to the people they are entrusted to serve. Of course, governments build highways, flyovers, and large infrastructure projects. But the true progress of a country is not measured by the length of its roads, but by how safe its citizens are.’ He further wrote, Every day we hear news of fire incidents, crimes against women and children, exam paper leaks, dilapidated government hospitals and schools, water scarcity, and growing public dissatisfaction. On the other hand, accountability often appears to be limited to a select few. Influential people get relief, while the common citizen continues to struggle for justice. To escape the fire, some students locked themselves in the bathroom, while others jumped from the first floor. Many students climbed down by hanging from wires.
