A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader was arrested in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district after a woman accused him of attempting to rape her at her residence. The accused was allegedly caught by residents, who assaulted him before police intervened. The accused, identified as Shyamal Saha, is reportedly the secretary of the Deganga-1 Mandal BJP unit, according to local sources. BJP leader arrested after assault allegation Police stated that the incident occurred in Hemanta Basu Nagar, under Kadambagachi, within the jurisdiction of Duttapukur Police Station. The complainant alleged that Saha had been harassing her for a long time. According to the woman, the accused allegedly entered her house late on Monday night and attempted to sexually assault her. Her screams alerted family members, who rushed to the spot and raised an alarm, prompting residents to gather. Locals intervene before police rescue accused The locals allegedly caught Saha and assaulted him before police from the Kadambagachi outpost arrived and rescued him from the crowd. A video purportedly showing the accused being detained by residents has surfaced on social media, though its authenticity has not been independently verified. Saha was produced before the Barasat Court on Tuesday, where the court remanded him to police custody. Minister promises strict legal action ahead Police have registered a case based on the survivor’s complaint and have launched an investigation into the allegations. Reacting to the incident, West Bengal Food Minister Ashok Kirtania said, “If anyone has committed a crime, they must be punished.
