Mud, shoes thrown at Mamata Banerjee’s convoy:Villagers raise ‘chor’ slogans during her visit to family of custody death victim

Villagers protesting in Halisahar allegedly threw mud and shoes at former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s car on Sunday as she was travelling to the residence of a man who died after falling ill in police custody. Several protesters reportedly gathered in front of the convoy and raised slogans of “chor” (thief) as Banerjee passed through the area. The protest came after the death of Birju Keot, who had been arrested in connection with several allegations, including extortion. Keot was reportedly a close associate of former Kanchrapara municipal chairman Kamal Adhikari. Detainee dies at Kalyani hospital According to police, a court had remanded Keot to five days of police custody. He reportedly fell ill on Saturday and was taken to JNM Hospital in Kalyani for treatment. He later died at the hospital, police said. Banerjee was travelling to Keot’s residence following his death when the protest took place. The incident led to tension along the route, with protesters allegedly throwing mud and footwear towards her vehicle. Police personnel were deployed in the area to manage the situation and maintain law and order.
