The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won the Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) mayoral election. The party’s mayoral candidate Pravesh Wahi received 156 votes out of 165 in the voting held on Wednesday. Mayoral elections are held every year in the MCD. For this, all councillors of the state, MPs and 14 MLAs elected by the Assembly Speaker cast their votes. The Aam Aadmi Party had boycotted the election and did not vote. After the victory, Pravesh Wahi said his priority is to provide better facilities to the people of Delhi. Work will be done on clearing garbage heaps in the city and making Delhi clean. Pravesh is a 3-time councillor Pravesh Wahi is the councillor of Rohini E Ward. He has been a councillor three times and comes from the Khatri Punjabi community. His family came to India after being displaced from Rawalpindi. He received his early education from a municipal corporation school in Old Delhi and has been an active member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Pravesh started with the Vishva Hindu Parishad in 1990 and joined the BJP Yuva Morcha in 2002. He has been elected as a councillor in 2007 and 2012 as well, and during this time he has served in important positions such as Chairman of the Rohini Zonal Committee and Chairman of the influential Standing Committee of the North Municipal Corporation.
