A report claimed regarding Ranveer Singh and director Farhan Akhtar’s film ‘Don 3’ that Ranveer wanted violence and abusive language in this film. Farhan’s disagreement on this led to a dispute between the two. This project, which began about 3 years ago, is now in limbo because Ranveer Singh has reportedly exited the film. According to media reports, Farhan Akhtar has suffered a loss of approximately ₹40 crore due to Ranveer leaving the film. The Sticking Point: Abusive Language and Violence
According to a report by ‘Free Press Journal’, Ranveer Singh wanted the character of ‘Don’ to be more violent and dark, in keeping with current trends. Ranveer believed that audiences were enjoying gore and ‘strong language’ (abusive language) on screen. He wanted expletives to be used in Don’s dialogues, but Farhan Akhtar was strictly against it. Farhan said- ‘Don’ doesn’t use expletives
Farhan Akhtar tried to explain to Ranveer that the ‘Don’ franchise has its own dignity. Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan never portrayed this character through abuses or senseless violence. Farhan was not ready to compromise with his original vision. His argument was that ‘Don’ is a stylish and cunning criminal, not a street thug. A heated argument ensued between the two over this, and eventually, Ranveer withdrew from the film. Why did the dispute start?
The rift between Ranveer and Farhan began in December 2025. After the release of the film ‘Dhurandhar’, Ranveer Singh suddenly walked out of ‘Don 3’. Farhan and his partner Ritesh Sidhwani brought the matter before the ‘Producers Guild of India’. It was stated in the meeting that ₹40 crore had already been spent on the pre-production of the film and Ranveer had approved the script at every stage. Production House Demanded ₹40 Crore Compensation
After Ranveer left the film, Farhan’s company ‘Excel Entertainment’ demanded a heavy penalty from him. The production house states that they have suffered significant losses due to changes in the film’s pre-production and shooting schedule, and therefore Ranveer should pay ₹40 crore as compensation. However, according to the latest update, Ranveer Singh has currently agreed to return his signing amount of 10 crore.
