A pedestrian was injured after a transformer box installed on a footpath outside Amazon’s office in Bengaluru exploded on Wednesday, police said. The incident took place outside Gate No. 3 of the office near Bagalur Cross, under the Yelahanka Old Town police station limits. The injured man was identified as Md Afroz. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast Division) Mithun Kumar said Afroz was injured in the incident and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital. His condition is said to be safe. Dashcam footage showed several commuters passing by when the transformer allegedly exploded. Afroz, who was walking along the footpath, fell to the ground following the blast. A woman walking immediately behind him escaped unhurt. A witness, Arun G, said on X that his vehicle’s dashcam had captured the incident. He said he could not step out of his car because a large crowd had gathered at the spot and his children were inside the vehicle. Locals informed the fire control room at around 10:35 am. By the time fire tenders arrived, the blaze had spread to a nearby building, filling it with smoke. Smoke also spread towards the Pul Bogda area. However, two fire engines from Mata Mandir brought the fire under control within 15 minutes. The incident triggered panic in the area. With a hotel and gym nearby, people were seen running in fear. No casualties were reported. Police said the matter will be investigated upon receiving a complaint. Residents said sparks and flames began emerging from electrical wiring, fans, and refrigerators, forcing families to rush out of their homes with their children. The incident occurred around 8 AM in Ambedkar Colony at Kawakheda in Shastri Nagar, under the Kotwali police station area. Locals reported hearing a loud explosion from an electric pole and the transformer installed at the colony intersection, which triggered the high-voltage surge. Transformer explodes like bomb in Rajgarh A major accident occurred in Khilchipur, Rajgarh district, when a transformer exploded during testing at the Pandaji Bagh water plant. The blast led to a massive fire, with flames rising 15–20 feet high, seriously injuring three workers on site. According to eyewitness Manoj, a coil in the transformer had previously burst and was recently repaired. The explosion happened unexpectedly during the post-repair testing process. The sound of the blast was reportedly heard up to half a kilometer away.
