A five-storey building collapsed near the fish market in Seemapuri, Delhi, on Wednesday. According to news agency IANS, 8 to 10 people, including the building owner’s family, are feared trapped under the debris. Two children have been safely rescued so far. Rescue teams are engaged in the operation. The building was located near the Eidgah Mosque in Seemapuri. Locals said four to five members of a family were present on the first floor when the building collapsed. Following the incident, the injured were taken to Rajiv Gandhi Hospital. Traffic has been affected around Seemapuri Gol Chakkar, DLF Bhopura and adjoining roads. Police have advised people to avoid the area, not stop, park or gather near the site, and follow directions from traffic personnel. The Delhi Fire Service (DFS) received a call regarding the collapse at 3.30 pm and rushed fire tenders to the spot. Some people might be trapped in the debris, he said. “Search and rescue operation is ongoing,” a DFS officer said. Shops were located on the ground floor The fire control room received a call about the building collapse at around 3:15 pm, following which Delhi Police and fire brigade teams reached the spot and began relief and rescue operations. The building is reportedly located inside a narrow lane. It had shops on the ground floor and four floors above, with different families living on each floor. The building owner and his family also lived there and are reportedly feared trapped. Councillor Pankaj Luthra said they received information about the building collapse and that four to five people had already been rescued from the debris. Resident says son-in-law, daughter and 2 children rescued; 3 still trapped A local resident, Saleem, said his son-in-law and daughter were inside the building and were safely rescued. Two children have also been rescued, while three others are still trapped and efforts are underway to rescue them. Pankaj Luthra, Municipal Councillor from Jhilmil, said the building was around 40-50 years old. He said four to five people had already been rescued from the debris. The police, MCD and administration are involved in the rescue operation, Luthra said, adding that all possible efforts are being made to prevent any further incident. 5-6 people taken to hospital, 2-3 still trapped, says DCP Shahdara DCP Rajendra Prasad Meena said around five to six people have been taken to hospital so far.
